Center of the Universe

My family came to visit for my birthday a few weeks ago (Eeeek!  I am 30!)  It was fun to show them around Tulsa.  Since the weather wasn’t super great -  we were limited on what to do.  I received a few suggestions from my co-workers:

  • Utica Square
  • Riverwalk
  • Philbrook Museum
  • Center of the Universe
  • Warren Theater
  • Golden Driller

Most of these suggestions I knew about… but THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE?!
What in the world was that?   Since I had planned on showing them downtown area (and how empty it is on the weekend – unless the weather is good and something is happening at Guthrie Green), I thought we could check out The Center of the Universe to see if it was worth the hype.

The Center of the Universe is a place in downtown Tulsa.  It is located on a walking bridge on Archer in between Main and Boston Ave.  It is a concrete circle surrounded by bricks.  When you stand in the center of the circle you will hear an echo of whatever you say.  It kind of resembles a megaphone.  The weirdest part is that no one around you will hear this echo.

We tried it out and had so much fun walking around it and talking – seeing what we could hear and what we couldn’t hear.
My adorable sister Lisa - she almost froze in Tulsa!

It was a fun and silly detour that had us talking about it the entire day!
