First Thanksgiving - Turkey!

My Mom and Sister sent me super cute Thanksgiving cards!  Since this was our first Thanksgiving away from both of our families, I thought these cards were SUPER sweet!

Okay!  Onto the Turkey stuff!

For the Turkey - I used:

  • 1 cup - Orange Juice
  • 2 oranges - peels and slices
  • 1/2 cup - Honey
  • 1 TSP - Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 TBS - Olive Oil
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1 TBS - Minced garlic
  • 1 TBS - Cinnamon (for sauce)
  • 1 can - 11 ounce chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
  • Cinnamon sprinkled on the bottom of crockpot and in the turkey cavity
  • 1 TBS Brown Sugar (not pictured)

I put the orange peels in the bottom of the crockpot - then sprinkled them with cinnamon.
I also turned the crockpot on HIGH - this will get it nice and warm when I put the turkey in.
It looks so gross!

I used the vitamix to puree the ingredients into a sauce.
EVERYTHING goes in the food processor - except..
  • Two chipotle peppers
  • Orange slice from one orange
I put those items in the cavity of the turkey and sprinkled it with cinnamon.

I painted the turkey with the sauce I pureed in the Vitamix.
(My Grandma laughed and said "I don't know anything about painting a Turkey!")

I cooked the turkey on HIGH for the first hour -
then on LOW for the remaining 5 hours.

I put the turkey in the crockpot and poured any extra sauce over it.  Then.. again - sprinkled cinnamon over the turkey.

I checked the temperature throughout the time and watched it heat up!  It got to 200 degrees! I would also baste it to make sure it was kept nice and juicy.

BOY WAS IT A SUCCESS!!!!
It had so much flavor and juiciness!  I didn't even make gravy!
The turkey had a sweetness, but was also a little on the spicy side.
